Anemophilous flowers are wind pollinated. The flowers are small and inconspicuous and are often produced in an inflorescence. Wind-pollinated flowers usually lack sepals and petals; they have no scent and produce no nectar. Separate male and female flowers may occur, and the pollen is small, dry, light weight, and abundant. Hay fever plants are usually anemophilous. Inflorescences of three anemophilous plants are shown here.
Conifers (which are gymnosperms) are also anemophilous with pollen produced in small male cones.Â
