Platanus is a small genus of tree species native to the Northern Hemisphere. Platanus occidentalis trees commonly called American sycamore or American plane trees are native to the eastern United States and eastern Oklahoma. They are large trees that are typically found in moist woodlands and riverbanks in the wild; however, they are also planted as a street tree in many areas where they are valued as shade trees.Â
Pollen release usually begins in mid-March with peak concentrations typically in early April. The pollen grains are small with three colpi and a reticulate exine.
