Salix (willow) is a large genus of trees and shrubs that occur in most parts of the world. Several species of willow are native to Oklahoma, and others have been introduced. Salix species are dioecious with separate trees producing male or female catkins.
Salix pollen grains are small (16-24 µm) and tricolpate (or tricolporate in some species). The exine is reticulate with the openings in the reticulum decreasing in size near the colpi. The pollen is captured from Tulsa air samples in April and May.
